With 15 years experience, education and expertise in the mental health field, I have helped clients access their own strengths, gain insight and build skills to improve their lives. Depression, Anxiety, Disability Adjustment, Parental Anxiety/Depression, Trauma, Grief, Coping and Stress are just a few of the issues I have helped clients overcome, process or come to terms with.
Working with adults, teens, seniors and children has given me a wealth of experience in counselling across all ages and I enjoy working with the unique perspectives and challenges each of these life stages represent.
Like many therapists, I am client-centred. This means that listening, understanding and having no judgement is crucial to building a positive relationship with my clients. I am trained in and work with the modalities of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Trauma Focused CBT, Narrative, Solution Focused, Art, Play and Animal Assisted Therapy. My Pacific Assistance Dog (PADS), Mac is a provincially registered Therapy Dog who has been my working partner for 11 years. Please see the articles written about my work with Mac, linked in the Counselling section of this website.
As an experienced Facilitator, I am skilled at customizing training for groups in the areas of mental health, boundary setting, social skills, peer counselling and crisis intervention. As a consultant, I bring a unique blend of training and experience to groups concerned with Threat Assessment, Behavioural Intervention and Critical Incident Management.
I have an MA from SFU in Counselling Psychology, am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC #11257) and a Certified Trauma Services Specialist (CTSS).
